When cut level is not the real problem

A higher cut level is not always the only answer.

A customer recently shared feedback from a construction site.

Workers were handling steel rebar and using PU coated cut-resistant gloves.

The gloves had:

  • EN388 cut level C
  • abrasion level 3

But each worker used one pair every 2–3 days.

After checking real worksite photos, we found the main damage points were the thumb crotch and the side of the index finger.

That told us something important:

The issue was not only cut risk.

It was repeated abrasion stress in specific areas.

So we did not simply recommend a higher cut level.

We suggested two options:

  1. Upgrade the glove with reinforced thumb area.
  2. Keep the current glove for general workers, but switch only the rebar-handling workers to a more abrasion-resistant option.

This helps balance worker protection and budget control.

Glove selection should start from the real job, not only from the standard on paper.

A good supplier should help customers understand where the glove fails, why it fails, and how to choose a more practical solution.
